Last year we kicked off a series of summer camps for children to attend during their school holidays. We opened up our home and invited a small group to our property for a week of coaching, riding lessons, fun, games and entertainment. Our kids joined in the fun, and new friendships and relationships flourished as they all enjoyed each other’s company on our modest lifestyle property.
Typically the days are jammed-packed with plenty of interaction between rider’s and their mount. We normally start off with a group breakfast followed by the first training clinic with myself in the arena. Each rider enjoys a small sub-group lesson, while the rest of the riders watch on or prepare for their lesson. Lunch is typically a fun affair once again, then there’s some down time before we head off for a series of games, or maybe an obstacle course. There’s more tuition or trekking about on the property while mixing up with non-horsey activities into the evening. That’s when we will review some photo’s taken during the day from the comfort of our lounge, or maybe watch Country TV horse events, or make up our own sing-along show – if the campers still have enough energy!
These summer camps have really been fun and so rewarding for everyone involved and will continue throughout 2016. We will post updates here or on my Facebook page when the next one is scheduled.
